NICE Decision Support Unit EQ-5D-3L <-> EQ-5D-5L mapping tables
---------------------------------------------------------------

The object `.crosswalk_NICE` in R/sysdata.rda, used by `eqxw_UK()` and
`eqxwr_UK()`, is derived from the mapping tables distributed with the NICE
Decision Support Unit's commands for mapping between the EQ-5D-3L and the
EQ-5D-5L (R release for the DSU website, April 2026), which use the UK
EQ-5D-5L value set of Rowen et al. (2026).

    Source files: EQ5Dmap_table3.csv (EQ-5D-3L to EQ-5D-5L)
                  EQ5Dmap_table5.csv (EQ-5D-5L to EQ-5D-3L)

Authors: Mónica Hernández Alava, Stephen Pudney and Allan Wailoo
School of Health and Related Research,
                  University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK

Only the United Kingdom columns are included, reshaped into a table holding,
for each health state, age band and sex, the mapped value and the value of the
state on the source instrument. The mapped values are reproduced unchanged; the
source-instrument values are taken from this package's own value sets and
checked against the DSU's corresponding columns.

The tables are taken from the publicly available commands for mapping between
the EQ-5D-3L and the EQ-5D-5L published by the NICE Decision Support Unit:

    https://sheffield.ac.uk/nice-dsu/methods-development/mapping-eq-5d-5l-3l

EQ-5D value sets
----------------

The value sets in R/sysdata.rda -- 40 for the EQ-5D-3L, 44 for the EQ-5D-5L and
10 for the EQ-5D-Y-3L -- are the published country value sets for the
instrument. Each is recorded in the package's registry together with the
publication it is taken from and that publication's DOI, which
`eqvs_display(show_citation = TRUE)` prints; work using a value set is expected
to cite it. Value sets published or revised after a release reach an installed
copy of the package through `update_value_sets()`, which reads them from

EQ-5D-5L <-> EQ-5D-3L crosswalks
--------------------------------

The crosswalk used by `eqxw()` and the reverse crosswalk used by `eqxwr()` are
the tables published with:

van Hout B, Janssen MF, Feng YS, et al. Interim scoring for the EQ-5D-5L:
mapping the EQ-5D-5L to EQ-5D-3L value sets. Value in Health.

    2021;24(9):1285-1293. doi:10.1016/j.jval.2021.03.009

These are distinct from the NICE DSU mapping above, which is for the United
Kingdom only and is age- and sex-specific.

NHS Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) data
--------------------------------------------------

The example dataset `example_data` in data/example_data.rda is a sample of
patient-level records from the NHS Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)
programme: 5,000 patients, each with a pre-operative and a post-operative
EQ-5D-3L response and EQ VAS score, for groin hernia repair, hip replacement,
knee replacement and varicose vein surgery.

Publisher: NHS England (formerly NHS Digital)
Publication: Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)
    URL: https://digital.nhs.uk/data-and-information/publications/statistical/patient-reported-outcome-measures-proms

It is included to document and demonstrate the package, and is subject to the
terms of re-use the publisher states at that address.

Typefaces in the Shiny app
--------------------------

The Shiny app bundles two typefaces in inst/shiny/WWW/fonts, as web fonts
(WOFF2, Latin and Latin Extended subsets, as distributed by Google Fonts):

DM Sans Copyright 2014 The DM Sans Project Authors
            (https://github.com/googlefonts/dm-fonts)
Fraunces Copyright 2018 The Fraunces Project Authors

Both are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1, not under the
package's licence. The licence texts are in inst/shiny/WWW/fonts/OFL-DMSans.txt
and inst/shiny/WWW/fonts/OFL-Fraunces.txt. They are bundled so that the app
needs no font service and makes no request to one.
