Visas and Letters of Invitation

This webpage provides information for various options to obtain authorization to travel to IETF Meetings. It is updated as registration for future IETF meetings open.

IETF 121 Visas and Letters of Invitation (LOI)

To enter Ireland you will be required to have a valid passport and potentially a Short Stay 'C' Visa.

Letters of Invitation

We’ve been informed that the IETF letter of invitation is sufficient along with other required documents in order to obtain a visa to Ireland for those that need one. If you need a visa to travel to Ireland, you can request a LOI from your attendee dashboard. If you have issues regarding your LOI, please contact us directly at support@ietf.org.

IETF 122 Visas and Letters of Invitation (LOI)

To enter Thailand you will be required to have a valid passport.

Most participants for IETF 122 will not require a visa to attend. You may visit the Thai e-Visa Official Website to determine if a visa is necessary for your travel to Thailand. If you do need a visa to travel to Thailand, you can request a LOI from your participant attendee dashboard after registering for the meeting. If you need assistance with have issues regarding your LOI, please contact us directly at support@ietf.org. 

Please note the following:

  1. Visas are valid from the day they are issued, meaning you could apply too early for your visa. Please consult with your local Thai embassy prior to submitting your application to determine when they recommend you begin your visa process.
  2. IETF 122 is considered a Meetings, Incentives, Convention, Exhibitions Event (MICE). The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) recommends a tourist visa to anyone who needs a visa to enter Thailand, and we are working closely with them to obtain the documentation necessary for IETF participants. In the meantime, you may still collect the required application documents however we recommend that you check with your local embassy and wait until the TCEB letter is issued to apply for your visa. 
  3. If you request a letter of invitation you will automatically be sent the TCEB letter once it is issued.
